This one-day class will provide participants with the skills to be safe in the winter backcountry. It is appropriate for snowshoers, skiiers, boarders, hunters, and other people who enjoy recreating in the snow. Topics include preparing your vehicle, weather, hypothermia, clothing, nutrition, the ten essentials, avalanche awareness, emergency shelters, leave no trace, and group dynamics. A $35 donation to the Ski Patrol will hold your space in the class.

The class will be held at the Eldorado Forest Supervisor's Office. The mailing address is 100 Forni Road, but the physical location is Briw Road. Driving directions:
Coming from the West (ie, Sacramento): take exit 44B (Placerville Dr/Forni Rd). Turn left (east) onto Forni Rd. Turn right at the next stop sign, onto Briw Road. Turn right into the first driveway, and drive behind the building to park. The conference room is at the south end of the building, along the back parking lot.
Coming from the East (ie, Pollock Pines): take exit 44B (Placerville Dr/Forni Rd). Turn left at the signal, cross over the freeway, and then veer left onto Forni Road. At the second stop sign turn right onto Briw Road. Turn right into the first driveway and drive behind the building to park. The conference room is at the south end of the building, along the back parking lot.
