Winter 2019-20 may bring back-country opportunities to explore the winter high country while applying specific skills of preparedness and safety. This one day indoor class is appropriate for snowshoers, skiers, snowboarders, hunters, off-road enthusiast, and other people who enjoy recreating in the high sierra winter snow. This class will provide participants with the knowledge to be safe in the winter back-country. Attending the Winter Back-Country Skills course can prepare you to go out into the mountains this winter. Our presentation format will cover leadership, group dynamics, preparing your vehicle for winter travel, nutrition, field weather forecasting, avalanche awareness, backpack 10 essentials, clothing options and recognizing cold exposure issues, emergency shelters, current equipment, leave-no-trace, and ski patrol favorite routes.

The class will be held at the Eldorado Forest Supervisor's Office, 3030 Briw Road, Placerville CA. Driving directions:
Coming from the West (ie, Sacramento): From Hwy 50, take exit 44B (Placerville Dr/Forni Rd). Turn left (east) onto Forni Rd. Turn right at the next stop sign, onto Briw Road. Turn right into the first driveway, and drive down and behind the building to park. The conference room is at the south end of the building, along the back parking lot.
Coming from the East (ie, Pollock Pines): From Hwy 50, take exit 44B (Placerville Dr/Forni Rd). Turn left at the signal, cross over the freeway, and then stay left onto Forni Road. At the second stop sign turn right onto Briw Road. Turn right into the first driveway, and drive down and behind the building to park. The conference room is at the south end of the building, along the back parking lot.
